Drunk Driver Drinking Game

This week’s featured drinking game is another classic! It is super simple, but it never gets old. We strongly recommend playing with a Nintendo 64; you can also buy the Nintendo 64 version of Mario Kart on your Wii system if you have classic controllers for the Wii. If this doesn’t work for you, you can still go with your preferred version of Mario Kart.

What you need:

  • Mario Kart (we recommend the Nintendo 64 version, but it can be done with any system’s variation)
  • A controller for each player
  • 1 beer per player per game (scale to ½ beer if preferred)

Set it Up!

So, this one is pretty simple. All you will need to do is set up Mario Kart for the number of players you have as you usually would. Each player should have one beer in front of him. That beer should be UNOPENED!! Some jerks will make a player who opens their beer in advance chug the entire thing and get a new one… it’s up to you whether you’d like to implement that beer Nazi rule.

Let’s Play!

Once you are given the green light to start moving in the game, you also have the greenlight to crack open your beer. However, you cannot be using or holding your controller while you drink your beer!

The objective is to finish your entire beer throughout the course of the race, and finish the race itself as quick as possible. Players who finish the course but do not finish their beers are disqualified! That’s right—it doesn’t matter if you scored first place in the game if you didn’t finish your beer. You are tied for last!

Obviously, drinking a beer per game for each course that is less than 10 minutes long can get a bit dicey… that is why we recommend scaling it to a half a beer per game or less if you think that is more appropriate for your tolerance level and intended time of gameplay.

A strategy we recommend is getting the boost at the start of the course, then immediately dropping your controller and drinking as much of the beer as you can. Mario Kart tends to give you better power-ups when you’re falling behind, so starting in last place and fighting to get back ahead is much better than starting out in first and dropping to last place on the last lap when you finally finish your beer.

That’s all there is to it! This is a pretty simple one. If you haven’t played Drunk Driver before, you are missing out!! Give it a go and let us know what you think. Have a hilarious story about that one time you played Drunk Driver? Feel free to share it in the comments below!

We hope you have a great time trying this one out! Don’t forget to drink responsibly (drunk driver should be reserved for Mario Kart only), and let us know if you have any questions!
